In the past few years, the lack of women in many positions in both the tech and entertainment industries has come to light. At the same time, girls and women continue to be discouraged from pursuing education and careers in certain male-dominated areas that are suitable preparation for careers in tech and gaming. Women’s systemic underrepresentation leaves them out of fulfilling and often well-paying and in-demand jobs, as well as opportunities to represent themselves and their stories equitably within games. Here, we’ll discuss how getting more girls and women involved in games will benefit both women and the gaming industry more broadly.
